Independent facial recognition compliance

Compliance is a strategic asset.

ELIAS was founded on one conviction: that compliance, done well, is not a cost but one of an organisation’s most valuable assets. We now apply that conviction where the stakes are highest, to facial recognition and the sensitive data that surrounds it.

Why compliance is an asset, not a cost.

Most organisations treat data protection as an overhead to be kept small. We see it the other way round. If you identify people by their faces, or hold data about their health, their gambling or their offending, your licence to operate rests on trust. That trust has value. Like any asset, it can be built, measured and protected. It can also be lost.

Facial recognition, done properly.

Facial recognition is no longer a question of whether. It is a question of how, and occasionally whether not. We advise on the whole life of a deployment: whether it is necessary at all, the lawful basis, the impact assessment, who goes on a watchlist and how they come off, accuracy and bias, human oversight, retention, signage and redress.

Our advice never depends on which system you choose, so the only outcome we have a stake in is a deployment that is right.

How we help with facial recognition

“We are the adviser who can tell you not to.”

Where we work

  • Facial recognition compliance

From the first question (should we?) to the last (can we prove it?).

A standard, not a promise

“Trust us” is not a compliance strategy. FRACT, the Facial Recognition Accreditation, Compliance & Technical Standard, sets out what lawful and ethical deployment looks like and how to evidence it. It is open, so anyone can read it, measure themselves against it and challenge it.
